Hullo,
Sally-Anne, I saw you wrote to Daphne. I take it there's been official word on Draco, then?
I say, how did she take the news? You know I had tea with her last Saturday, what. I believe I may be slowly making some progress toward determining what she does and doesn't wish to know.
At any rate, as I've a little time here at lunch (well, if I'm quite honest, I've practically nothing but time here in International Magical Co-operation, what, although--I say, I do have some interesting reports for the Order meeting but I'll get to that later), I thought I'd check. Once I've heard 'officially' I can offer my condolences.

Date: 2014-06-27 05:37 pm (UTC)I think we should tell her.
I think we should bring her into the Order. Or at least offer to.
She says she thinks Draco kept secrets from her because he thought she was weak.
Daphne's not weak.

Date: 2014-06-27 06:08 pm (UTC)I merely meant that...she was a bit more open with me toward the end of our meeting than the beginning. I say, she was worried I meant to propose another relationship of convenience, which clearly had begun to chafe on her where Draco was concerned. And she was understandably upset about why he might not have wanted a real relationship with her.
You're right that she's not weak, nor is she stupid. In her case I'd say it's more that...she doesn't like to think about things she'd rather not think about, what. She's much happier...coasting, if you follow me. But all these rather dire and deep events keep occurring right round her and make the consequences and implications jolly well hard to ignore.

Date: 2014-06-27 06:01 pm (UTC)On the other hand, it's all over MLE. People were talking about it in the sparring dungeons first thing, and you can tell it's what everyone's talking about all over the department. Clusters of them, talking low and looking sideways to see if Hopkirk or Lestrange or Crouch or Mulciber are about.

Date: 2014-06-27 06:21 pm (UTC)I mean, people seem to be working all the angles. Thinking out what all it could be besides the obvious. Apparently Mr Mulciber's sure it was fake. But the thing is not everyone agrees with him--just because it's him pushing that view. He's not a really popular bloke on either side of the department.

Date: 2014-06-27 06:12 pm (UTC)Yes, here, too.
I say, one of the things I found out from Mr Helpmann's assistant is that Mr Malfoy had been in contact in the last week or so, what, concerning travel documents for France. There's a good deal of very hushed speculation concerning whether he meant to remove the whole family but Gardiner (that's Helpmann's clerk) says they were only preparing parchment for one. I've waited because I wanted to tell Draco first, what, before announcing it to the whole Order.
And as you know, we've both been jolly well knackered of an evening. I say, I really ought to have sent him a private message before now.

Date: 2014-06-27 06:26 pm (UTC)That's big. I haven't heard anyone talking about that. Which... Well, it doesn't mean some of them don't know. It just means it's not general knowledge.
Loads of people here don't like Mr Malfoy. Or, anywiz, they like to talk about him as if he's a blowhard and a peacock and some of them go on about how his time's up as a big power on the Council. As if they know inside things no one else does.
But, yeah. You should tell Draco.

Date: 2014-06-27 06:43 pm (UTC)Though Mr Pontner did say that few people ever dared cross him to find out what he might do in retaliation. Still, that's rather ordinary, isn't it, for a Councilwizard.
Last Friday things were deadly dull, I could have sneaked in a PM to Draco easily. Today it's a touch more lively, but perhaps if you remind me before we get to the pub, what, I'll think of the right way to tell him.

Date: 2014-06-27 08:54 pm (UTC)Lucius Malfoy's been sent to Azkaban.
It's on the WWN. Also the galleons.
I really thought it would work. What we did, making it look like Draco was trying to come back.

Date: 2014-06-27 09:00 pm (UTC)I felt the Galleon change temperature, what, but haven't checked. Azkaban, really?
I say. Well, I suppose from the Lord Protector that might be leniency. If he'd meant to kill Mr Malfoy to pay for Draco's guilt, then he might have decided that without proof otherwise, prison was a better punishment.
It's a dashed ghastly thought but just the sort of thing one might expect from him.
Still. Draco must be beside himself. And Pansy. How is she taking it?

Date: 2014-06-27 09:05 pm (UTC)I told her I'm in a seditious organisation and that I'd answer questions about it. She wanted to know who else was in it and I told her I couldn't tell her that without getting people's permission.
I don't know, it seemed like a good idea. She already knew a little piece of so many different secrets and she's never breathed a word. But she resents all the secrets that are kept from her -- me, Pansy, Draco, everyone had them and she knew it.
So I told her I'd answer her questions, whatever they were. She had a lot of them. But they weren't things like, 'where's Draco' or 'have you met Sirius Black,' they were things like, 'how do you carry on without falling apart from fear' and 'are there people like me in it.' (Purebloods who aren't the children of councilwizards, is what she meant.)
I should probably tell Mrs Longbottom.
