Harry,

I say, well done today, old man. How are you feeling? Sorry I couldn't work out a better way to keep Finnigan and Patil from doing their best, what. I did recommend we go careful where the Lord Protector's son was concerned but Patil seemed to think Professor Desai would take that amiss.

Then again, of course, Professor Desai didn't give one much time to plan a properly innocuous spell, what. Still, one tried without making it seem to go too easy.

She didn't half seem pleased, though, which seems jolly good, considering she might have taken it differently.

For everyone else, Professor Desai had us organise in threes. I say, Patil presumed I'd be joining her and Finnigan and it seemed the wrong time to put up a fuss. When everyone else had all chosen partners, only Harry, Zach, Bulstrode and Jones were left. Bulstrode rather pushed her way in with Harry and Zach, leaving only Megan, but Professor Desai said that she'd a special use for her and called her forward.

When it became clear Professor Desai meant to make Jones defend against all comers, what, Harry volunteered to take her place. I say, Professor Desai took it bally well graciously, considering, and let him. Harry, what was the spell she recommended you use? Seemed to work a treat at keeping the worst of the rebounded curses at bay. Not all, though, what.

Perhaps if you decide to sacrifice yourself in future, you might consider appointing some of us as a replacement. No one of us can reasonably defend for a whole two hours at a stretch, alone; if we take it in turns, we stand a chance of keeping ourselves reasonably healthy.

Hullo,

Marks arrived here with the morning post. Have you got yours yet? Hydra, were your O.W.L.s what you expected?

Sally-Anne, I don't know if he did in yours as well, but Headmaster Dolohov included a well brief note in my letter, congratulating us on coming in first in the class. We've tied, it seems. Well done, you!

I say, I hope that Moon being Head Boy means that Professor Dolohov has appointed Daphne and not Patil as Head Girl. I, er, may have mentioned to him once or twice how happy I was last year to do Patil's and Finnigan's work for them, allowing them to focus on becoming Councilmembers. (Don't tell Daphne, though, what! If she is Head Girl, I don't wish her to think she wasn't chosen solely on her own merits--and for that matter, I've no way to know that I influenced him at all. And if she's not Head Girl.... Well, then my efforts made no difference, what.)

Finnigan,

I say, are you certain you want the section on identifying and neutralising protections in the field? I've already got some notes on the disruption of the common methods used to guard wizards working on complex or collaborative spells during melees. I'd be willing to draft it if you'd prefer, what--I mean to say, if you've other responsibilities for the Council challenges.

Patil, the same goes for the footnotes. I can put them in almost as easily as get you the list of sources. I'm quite finished with the bulk of the assignment. Zabini's already approved the draft for his section as well.

Ron, Neville--I say, I know you didn't get on with Thomas but it still must be a terrible thing to lose someone you spent so much time with. Has Madam Hooch said anything about a memorial service? How is everyone in Gryffindor?

Cedric, I say, were you able to get any other information out of Professor Dolohov? I tried to ask a few well-phrased questions of concern but Professor Dolohov wasn't having any of it, what.

In light of the crisis, it may not have been evident that not everyone got owls last night at supper. Zach did, what; it said that the sponsors had shifted things round after learning of Avery's death and that Montague's taken over as his sponsor. So he's not out, after all. I say, he was rather surprised. (Bobolis said his letter thanked him but that he was no longer in the competition, what.) Ron, have you been reassigned? Bad business, if so, old man--I know you were hoping this meant you'd escaped the worst.

I say, it's going to be dashed difficult listening to Patil and Finnigan in Noble Arts this morning but perhaps I can find out what on earth they were thinking, or what Professor Dolohov told her, if that's helpful.

Hullo,

I say, I'm sorry I wasn't able to revise yesterday afternoon. I trust it needs little explanation, after that disastrous Charms lesson, what?

I do hope neither of you are still suffering any after-effects. Luckily for me, Madam Pomfrey anticipated that I might need an alternative to Pepper-Up at some point this term, what, and she had concocted a preparation for me. Unfortunately, it bally well knocked me flat for almost eighteen hours! I slept straight through luncheon and supper both.

But I thought we answered Professor Dolohov's questions well enough this morning, regardless, what? I'm happy to work together on Wednesday if you like. This Friday I do have plans, however.

Hello,

I say, sorry to keep you both waiting. I had made an offer to someone else, what, and had to make sure I wasn't needed there before committing to another group.

As it happens, that person has a team already, so I'd be delighted to work with you. Please tell Finnigan it's only the limitations of private messages that keeps me including him, as well.

We might wish to establish a regular revising time, what, so that we can make sure all four of us are involved in planning any assignments requiring group input.

At any rate, thank you again for the offer and I'm happy to be able to accept.

Cheers,

Sue,

Sorry to disturb but have you asked anyone yet to partner in Noble Arts?

Only, Patil stopped me as we were all leaving supper and asked if I'd join up with her, Zabini and Finnigan.

On the one hand, they're all studious enough and one trusts they'll not turn one's bones to liquid, what.

On the other...I say, when I suggested we spread out and take in some of the others for their own protection, the three of them were not who I had in mind.

Would it be too awkward for us to partner with Ernie, and perhaps Brocklehurst or Corner? Or Brown or even Thomas?

Of course, if you've already put together your own group, I'm sure I shall manage all right with Patil. It's no trouble.

Cheers,

We made it out. We're heading to the rally point.

I say, we're taking rather heavy fire but we've managed to evade them for the moment. I've sent the same message to Harry and Moon.

Has Zabini managed to rejoin the group or is he staying with Ron's?

Chaps,

I say, good show today! Well done with the maps, Moon, and thanks for assuming the risk of taking point for most of the afternoon.

I'm well surprised we made it through the whole course, what! Well, I say 'we' but the rest of you did, at any rate. That MLE bloke seemed to know just where I'd be. Harry, lucky we switched bags when we did. There were--what--fifteen, altogether?

Harry, I'll have a word with Macmillan, shall I, about all the Apparation horror stories? I think they're putting Greengrass off her game. Patil didn't seem bally well happy with him, either--particularly after Zabini's incident this morning, what!

I say, jolly well done, all three of you. The side are lucky to have you.

Also to the other new players, in Hufflepuff and all other Houses. I'm quite looking forward to the matches this year. Ron, I said this afternoon but again: Heartiest congratulations, old man.

Oh, Patil, as I said this afternoon, I'd be happy to take any Monday or Thursday, as needed.

So far, the year's going quite well, what? I say, there's loads of homework but that's not unexpected. I suppose the real challenge is balancing all of that with all the other activities. I'm not sure how some take on CCF, YPL, Quidditch, and being a Prefect all at once but they seem to manage it.

At any rate, now that we've settled into the routine of the week, it's not so bad. Creatures is a perfectly pleasant way to end the school week and the other lessons promise to be very engaging.

What ho, all,

I say, it was fun today, wasn't it?

Something interesting happened tonight, though. You may have noticed that Hydra's father wrote to her (and I'm well glad I thought not to send her a Private Message or to say anything improper, what!). Well, she told me that she's keeping the fact that we're dating secret from him. Which makes sense, I daresay, and it's fine with me for the time being, at any rate.

But then she scratched something out in her last reply to me. You know how she signs everything 'From, Hydra' but this time she started to write something else.

I think it was 'Love.'

I can't be sure. And I say, it doesn't necessarily mean anything, what? Because it's common enough to sign a letter 'With love' or 'Love,' just as one might use 'Sincerely' or 'Yours.'

Only. Hydra doesn't. Sign off that way, I mean.

So.

I'm not sure what to think, if you follow me.

Do you think she meant it but didn't want to be the first to say it? Or that she doesn't mean it and scratched it out so I wouldn't think she cares more than she does? Or was it just a mistake?

And what I told Padma about Valentine's? It's not true at all, of course. I only didn't wish her to pry where anyone might see the answer. But if Hydra doesn't want to continue--well, why would she lie to her father about me, what? Unless she thinks she's about to break things off and he never needs to know.

What do you think I ought to do?

-Justin
alt_justin: (De rien)
Hullo, all.

I say, this Quidditch match you're getting up, it's not going to be too competitive, what? I rather think Hydra's looking more forward to that than Patil's party, to be honest.

But I don't mind saying I'm not keen to look a right wanker on a broom. Especially in front of the house sides.

Oh, and I don't think they've said anything to you lot yet but did you know, they've arranged a tour for those of us visiting over the Easter hols? It doesn't sound half bad--except I'm sure that everything we see will be calculated to please, what?
